Freeze Festival 2009: Sweethead and Eagles of Death Metal review

I ‘trotted’ on down to Battersea Power Station on Saturday to the Freeze Festival to watch some of the best snowboarders and skiers tackle the slopes. But ultimately to see Eagles of Death Metal and Sweethead. Wondering around the site I spotted a man standing chatting on the phone. This man was not there to ski. He was not there to snowboard. He was a rock star. Rock stars exude coolness, and the black shaggy hair and skinny jeans certainly did not look appropriate for the slope. So we asked him for an interview. He said after the show. And took my phone number. But he didn’t call. I thought we’d be Eagles of Death Metals first priority when exiting the stage? Several hours later. After enduring an extremely long Calvin Harris DJ set (I’m not saying it was bad – I was saying it was.. long) we snuck backstage to hunt out an interview. And spotted – Troy Van Leeuwen – mostly known for his work in Queens of the Stone Age, Eagles of Death Metal – and currently on tour with new band Sweethead. Sweethead are releasing their new album next week – November the 2nd it states on their myspace page… it’s certainly one I am waiting for. Video interview below…
